A Widow’s Nails

By Harold Shank · Comments (0)

About a month ago at OVU we sent out a fund raising letter about the roof on our athletic building. It leaks. We needed help getting it fixed.   Friends of the school sent funds to help out.

One check for ten dollars came last week. The donor knew we faced a substantial cost on the repair. Roofers had to be paid. We had to buy the materials.   On the memo line of her check she wrote, “This is for the roof nails.”

In effect, she said I can’t pay the salaries of the roofers or the substantial cost of the materials, but I can pay for the nails.

I know this person. She’s a widow.

She paid for the nails.
