Children and the Ten Commandments

A recent issue of Journal of Christian Studies focused on the Decalogue.  One of the articles in the journal entitled The Decalogue and Justice for Children: The Value and the Vulnerability of Children was by Harold Shank.

The piece takes up the concern of children.   Children around the world are frequently victims of injustice. The Decalogue is often thought to focus on adults, yet a closer look shows how the Ten Commandments also speak to the vulnerability of children. Although three of the commandments mention children, all ten speak to the ways in which children are treated without equity. Viewing the Decalogue with childist eyes gives additional insight into these ethical standards and provides a template of ways to address the tragic plight of millions of children. The Decalogue serves as God’s way of calling all people to do justice to the youngest humans.

Consider subscribing to this journal and take a look at the articles on the Decalogue including the one about children.  See https://www.christian-studies.org/jcs
