Pseudepigrapha

By Harold Shank
Monday, April 28th, 2014

Occasionally in literary history some writer claims to be somebody he is not.  The Book of Enoch and the Gospel of Barnabas both make the list of such works.  We call these pseudepigrapha, literally “false title.”

Last weekend somebody created a Facebook page in my name and sent messages to my friends that appeared to be from me.  Some friends texted me immediately saying, “It didn’t sound like you.”  Facebook administrators shut down the false site.

It’s not exactly pseudepigrapha, but it comes close.

Sometimes false news travels further than true news.  I hope this piece helps set the matter straight.
