I have not read all of the book yet, but I like it. I loved the chapters on righteousness and justice, violence (which was very fascinating), and orphans. I have not been reading the chapters in the order in which they appear in the book.
I was a little disturbed by the first paragraph on page 65. “God know the human heart is not changed by the Flood, so God changes His heart. The next time every imagination of the human heart turns evil, there will be no devastating flood. God’s heart is changed.”
When I first read that paragraph, I was concerned because I associated a change of heart with a defect in the character of God. It seemed as if God’s heart was somehow corrupt and needed to change. On page 68, you make it clearer when you write, “This change need not imply that God’s character changed, or that His nature depends on human actions, but rather that His heart holds a deep concern for humanity and promises to be part of their future.” I was relieved when I arrived at that point in the book:).
I have been enjoying the opportunity to learn from your book. Also, I appreciate the class you and Peter have been teaching on “Listening to His Heartbeat” on Wednesday nights at the Park Plaza Church of Christ in Tulsa this spring. Thanks for continuing to challenge me!
